ThrowBack: Darey – “Not The Girl”


Dare Art Alade  popularly known as Darey (pronounced Da-Ray) is a Nigerian multi-platinum selling and award-winning musician, singer-songwriter. Born in Lagos to legendary Nigerian Jazz pioneer Art Alade and Olapeju Alade, Darey has over the past years been a disc jockey, TV presenter, entertainment consultant, voice over artist and performing/recording artist.
Darey’s quest for showbiz eventually came to fruition when he participated in the 2004 edition of Project Fame Academy, a renowned Reality TV show and continent-wide talent hunt where he emerged third. Two years later, his debut album “From Me 2 U” entered the Nigerian market under Storm Records which includes hit singles ‘Fuji’ and ‘Escalade’ which enjoyed massive airplay in both Nigerian and international media.
In 2009, he released his highly anticipated second album titled “unDAREYted” under Soul Muzik, a different record label. The album sold over 150,000 copies across Nigeria in just two months and features hit ballad, “Not The Girl” which has gotten various awards including the 2009 Nigerian Entertainment Awards held in Washington DC . “Double Dare” his third album was released in 2011 and got good reviews. Darey recently released his smash single “Special Fever” produced by Harmony, an internationally acclaimed producer and has gone on to shoot the video featuring top Nollywood actress Rita Dominic.
The philanthropist and humanitarian who has various awards under his belt, has hosted top shows including MTN Project Fame, Gulder Ultimate Search and Glo Naija sings reality shows. Currently an ambassador to Unilever’s popular beverage drink  Lipton, he also serves as a judge on musical based reality show Nigerian Idol.
